Let me ask you something… if this were 1953 and a radical dictator were to suggest that the Holocaust was a “myth”, would it be appropriate for media & news agencies to subtly legitimize the plausibility of this view by suggesting there is something called the “official Jewish version of the Holocaust”?  If they did… they’d be stripped of any credibility, not to mention the backlash they’d receive from the WWII veterans (world-wide) & others who actually witnessed the atrocity.

Fast-forward to 2010.
Let me ask you something… if some dictator were to suggest that the Sept. 11 attacks are a “big lie”, would it be appropriate for media agencies (like the A.P.) to subtly legitimize the plausibility of this view by suggesting there is something called the “the official version of the Sept. 11 attacks”? 

That is exactly what happened yesterday afternoon when Ali Akbar Dareini published a “news” report on Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s most recent extremist remarks, by the A.P.’s publication it also suggests that this is the official position of the Associated Press.

First, here are Ahmadinejad’s words: 

 “September 11 was a big lie and a pretext for the war on terror and a prelude to invading Afghanistan”

Here is how Ali Akbar Dareini reported it & how the A.P. approved it to be published:

“TEHRAN, Iran — Iran’s hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Saturday called the official version of the Sept. 11 attacks a ‘big lie’ used by the U.S. as an excuse for the war on terror, state media reported.”  – Ali Akbar Dareini, “Associated Press”

Yes… he said, “the official version of the Sept. 11 attacks”.

Exactly how many versions of the September 11 attacks does the A.P.  hold as legitimate?  Personally, I can count the legitimate version on one finger.  The chosen language used by Ali Akbar Dareini and then approved by the Associated Press to be published suggests, in their opinion, that there is more than one legitimate version.  Apparently they feel “the truth” has not been settled.  Can you say, “9/11 Truthers” anyone?

Perhaps it was a typo… No wait, it happens again in the SAME article:

“The Iranian president has questioned the official U.S. version of the Sept. 11 attacks before, but this is the first time he ventured to label it a ‘big lie.’”

Perhaps we’re expected to give the A.P. a pass… I mean, they’re just reporting what the man said, right?  No, that doesn’t appear to be what they’re doing.  Mahmoud spews lies, knowing they are lies, purporting it to be the truth; however he doesn’t utter anything about an “official version”.  It is the Associated Press that has attempted to legitimize the possibility that Ahmadinejad, at the very least, has a plausible “version”.

Again here are Ahmadinejad’s words:

“September 11 was a big lie and a pretext for the war on terror and a prelude to invading Afghanistan”

But… the A.P. is not alone, Mike Green over at Huffington “Puffington” Post  also sees no problem legitimizing Mahmoud’s words as, at least, plausible:

“He claimed the U.S. government’s official version is merely a ‘big lie’ upon which the invasion of Afghanistan and the so-called war on terror was based.”

Huffington Post has linked the text of “official version” to the 9/11 Commission website, so (according to Huffington) while this is “one version” it is not the sole legitimate one.  In fact Mike Green… well take a look for yourself

If these organizations had any credibility, they’re stripped of it as of today unless & until they publish complete retractions, denounce Ahmadinejad’s words, and at the very least apologize to the families & victims of 9/11 who know all too well that what happened that day was an act of Terrorism by Muslim Extremists.

There are no “legitimate” alternative versions.  There are conspiracy theories, all of which have been debunked.  Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is a lunatic dictator and now apparently he has joined the 9/11 Truthers… but nobody is surprised at this, the same man has called the Holocaust a “myth”.  What I was surprised to read was the irresponsible legitimizing of these comments by the A.P. & Huffington Post… I think what is being communicated here is that the Associated Press & Huffington Post have admittedly joined the “Truther Movement”.
