Hyphenated American – The Failed Politics of the Past.

6

The Census Bureau came by the house this afternoon.  I had a feeling this day might come…  I’ll admit, I was a little late sending it out… but it was sent out nonetheless.

So my first question to the two government agents: “This isn’t going to count us twice or anything is it?  Because we did mail the form we received back in.”  Census Bureau Gentleman:  “Oh no, it will cancel out the other one.”  Alright so I agree to take the 10 minute Census with the Government Agents.

This really isn’t all that significant, but I thought it was worthy of a post because two agents of the United States Government recognized my race… which wasn’t even listed, but I won’t complain about this at this time.

My race is officially, Government Agent approved & finally recognized, as:  “American”.  Maybe in 2020 I’ll actually get a “box” to check off.

I’m not sure if my significant other was alright with this or not… perhaps she, like so many other Americans, would have preferred to hang on to the “mother land” (wherever one’s motherland might be).  But I doubt it.

I’m an advocate for the “Drop the damn hyphenated American descriptor” movement… So I felt a little bit of progress was made this afternoon.

That’s all.  God bless.

I hate when people ask about race, why do you need to know my race? Yep, from now on I am “American”! Without my hyphen

I did something similar. I just wrote in "Californian."
