"Would Be" Dictator in Honduras Removed from Office – Chavez, Obama, Cuba, & U.N. Upset

On Sunday June 28th, 2009 in a decision affirmed by the Honduras Congress, Supreme Court, the Supreme Electoral Tribunal, and the Military, the Honduran government enforced their Constitution and arrested, then deported, former President Jose Manuel Zelaya.
You might have “heard” this as being called a “coup d’état” or “coup”, but it is important that you understand that It Is Not. No one was “over-thrown”, there was no “violence”, nor was any action performed “illegally”. They followed the law and enforced their Constitution. Burwell Start at the American Thinker described it well in his article today saying:
“If this is a coup, then it is unlike almost any other in history. The former president is alive and safe, albeit out of power and in another country. An acting president has been named per the constitution, and presidential elections will still be held this fall. Also, the differing political parties have come together to support the removal of the former president. As it stands, the only government leaders labeling this a coup are the ex-president himself and leaders of other countries, especially those with personal socialist or Marxist leanings”
So what did Zelaya do?
Former President Zelaya has been aspiring to become the “life-long” “Democratically Elected” leader of Honduras, just like his friend the “Democratically Elected” Dictator of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez. Chavez by the way is extremely upset and is threatening to invade Honduras. Acting Executive of the government Robert Micheleti said the former president was:
“violating the constitution by sponsoring a referendum that was outlawed by the Supreme Court. Many saw the foiled vote as a step toward eliminating barriers to his re-election, as other Latin American leaders have done in recent years…” (Associated Press Writers Will Weissert And Freddy Cuevas).
According to the New York Times Zelaya wanted to “lift Presidential term limits” & “remake the Constitution”. Quite frankly… this is what SHOULD happen when a President who has become so narcissistic that he believes he was “chosen to rule” attempts to ignore the Constitution and remake it to fit HIS own interpretation of freedom and justice. In this case, his narcissism got the best of him and as Francisco Toro puts it in his article at TNR:
“Honduras’s generals were acting out of fear of a genuine and growing threat to Latin Democracy: the looming prospect of unchecked, hyper-empowered executive power held for life by a single, charismatic individual.”
So as of now, the dictators of Cuba, Venezuela, and numerous other dictators throughout the United Nations are demanding Zelaya’s return & restoration as President of Honduras. Oh and… so is President Obama.
On Monday Obama said:
“It would be a terrible precedent if we start moving backwards into the era in which we are seeing military coups as a means of political transition rather than democratic elections”
The Obama Administration is calling for the return & restoration of the former & impeached President Zelaya, calling the enforcement of the Honduran Constitution “illegal”. The Administration is also one of the main proponents insisting on referring to this legitimate arrest as a “coup”, while at the same time acknowledging the just cause for Zelaya’s arrest. From the New York Times:
“American officials did not believe that Mr. Zelaya’s plans for the referendum were in line with the Constitution, and were worried that it would further inflame tensions with the military and other political factions, administration officials said. Even so, one administration official said that while the United States thought the referendum was a bad idea, it did not justify a coup.”
Does this even make sense? Basically… “Yeah he might have been breaking the law, but c’mon he’s a President” – Yeah, sorry… but I would really hope that if this were our President taking the same actions as this “wanna be” dictator in Honduras and attempting to “remake” our Constitution… I would just hope those in our own Congress, Supreme Court, and Military wouldn’t hesitate to Uphold OUR Constitution (not that you have anything to be nervous about President Obama we all know that you would NEVER intentionally ignore the Constitution of the United States of America… after all you took the “oath” twice!)
Obama is not only sending the wrong message to the world, he’s sending the wrong message right here in America. President Obama should support the Honduran government for taking the correct actions. If he has some “personal” or “Marxist” reason that he feels the necessity to “empathize” with the unsuccessful attempt at dictatorship… hey that’s his prerogative, but for the time being he’s one of the only faces of America that the world sees and as such he should give the correct impression to the world, because the “Real America” supports democracy, freedom, the rule of law, our Constitution, and the rights of other democratic governments to uphold their law.
I know we have the 22nd Amendment in our Constitution to protect us from a similar “power grab” here in America, but I don’t think its so far of a “stretch” to think that we might, some day, find ourselves in a similar situation with a President who wants to repeal the 22nd Amendment so he can “reign” as long as he pleases. Look at what we have going on right now in the Obama Administration, for instance, where in the Constitution do you find the position titled “Czar” and why do they ONLY answer to the President? That sounds Constitutional… yeah right.

Main Points:
1. Zelaya was fired, arrested, and removed for just cause.
2. In democratic nations where the “Rule of Law” is still upheld, governments who uphold their Constitution should be held in high esteem and NOT condemned by the leaders of the Free World.
3. I can see why dictators like Chavez or Castro, or other similar characters in the U.N. may not like it when the people actually uphold the law and kick would be dictators out of office… I can see how that might make them a little “nervous”, but why is Barack Obama taking the sides of the dictators?
4. President Obama should support the Honduran government for taking the right actions.
